I was just ranting on my nephew's blog about the lack of support in the US for our children. It begins with lack of leave, then, and continues with lack of funding for preschools and kindergartens. Then it affects materials and student-teacher ratios. We have 37 kids in a class and not enough textbooks for each of them. I waited 5 days for enough chairs for students in my language arts classroom this year. I watched a show about Sweden yesterday. They have a common expression to answer, "How are you?" It means it is good enough. I am content. Swedes wonder about Americans grasping to be #1, the best, the most powerful. What is wrong, they wonder, with content?

This is "Lake of Wonders" Shadow Box. These are my grandchildren on the shore of our lake, and all rocks, moss, twigs and grasses are from our lake front. I was inspired to create it when I discovered the pebbles they found that day in the pocket of my jacket.

Here I am having lunch at work where people don't really understand, and I have no one to share this with! Teresa Collins is my FAVORITE designer, and I entered her design team contest 2 weeks ago. I really love this My Mind's Eye product. It was very inspiring for me. And....drum roll, please....I am going to be published in the Craft Warehouse Ad! I am taking these projects down to the photograph studio tomorrow morning!

I really must learn to post properly. One has to upload the projects last to first in order for them to appear first to last. That was complicated by the fact that the 14 Reasons You're My Valentine project is put together last to first. Needless to say, that project's photos are out of order!! Enjoy! I know! I know! It it now August, but Craft Warehouse sent our product 2 weeks late, and we were given 4 weeks extra to complete it! Even with the extra time, this month was a little tricky.

Brown Circle My Little Shoebox Shadow Box Layout

I was given ONLY 2 sheets of paper and 1 circular die cut paper for this puppy! Sheesh! Now, I love LOTS of paper to layer with, so I was challenged, especially since we were asked to create 3-D Layouts for use in a shadow box. I bent wired ribbon, cut out elements and plunked down tons of foam tape. At 6.39 a roll, I oughta buy stock in Scotch brand!

Pink and Yellow My Little Shoebox Shadow Box Layout

This was kind of fun! We are limited to embellishments--no fancy buttons and such, but I found these big ole' buttons in my button box, and, voila! I had dimension!!!

Blue and Yellow Pink Paisley Layout

(It isn't pink, I know. Pink Paisley is the brand name.) We received lots of chipboard elements and tons of papers for this assignment, and I love how it turned out. I find I use the backs of a whole lot of papers, especially when the pattern is bold. Perhaps I am a bit of a pattern wuss. All those rules about "no mixing of plaids and florals" come into play. when I see many multi patterned paper packs. (try saying that 3 times fast!)

Canvas

OK, I was a bit nervous about using canvas. I wanted to appear as a real artiste! I thought ink would be fun, but I am at the INK 101 level, and I yucked up my first canvas. (No problem, I am going to paint it and use it for a U of O canvas for Drew's bedroom.) My spattering got a bit out of hand, too, and the bold squiggle at the bottom is a bit trembly when I wanted it to be BOLD, but for a first time effort--it is fine.

Extra Credit!!!!

I also finished 4 coach's books for Drew's all-star team. I shot 600 photos per game--a total of 6000 shots! I choose 1000 shots and edited them--and, yes, I got typer's cramp... for the CD I am creating for the team parents. I am sick of overachieving and intend to sit on the boat and read the rest of the summer!!! So There!

Creativity takes time. At least for this artist. I must have spent 3 weeks just percolating ideas for this month’s Craft Warehouse Design Team projects. There are restrictions for each project. For instance, for the banner, we were required to use the following items:
2 Chipboard Banner pieces
2 of 4 patterned papers
A monster stamp
Rub-ons
Letters
We are not supposed to go to our own stash to embellish. We can only use basics like buttons, ribbon, and ink. The restrictions, though frustrating, actually foster ingenuity. This month I pleated paper and made watercolors out of ink pads.

A photo of my niece inspired the layout. Do you see that her shirt is strikingly similar to the striped paper????

I suppose Drew’s messy room inspired the banner. That, and the book Guess How Much I Love You. We used to read it and then come up with our own dialogue.

“I love you to Mars and back.”

“Oh yeah, well I love you to the NEXT UNIVERSE and back.”

“So? I love you back to the caveman times and back!”

The card would be fun for Father’s Day, wouldn’t it? I’d like to make up a tool belt card one day, too.

And on Sunday, I am planning a Snippets Crop at my place where I will get caught up on some of my own scrapbooking!

It is done! Finished! Completed! I am pleased with the results, but, oh, the agonizing I went through! It is one thing to make an album for a friend, but quite another to create an album for a craft store! The album and layout will be on display at the Craft Warehouse in Camas. I check the mail daily, and no Design Team assignment! Sheesh! Thank heavens a NATIONAL holiday comes this weekend so I can distract myself from my anxious waiting. National Scrapbook Day will find me and my Snippet friends Cathy and Cindy at Craft Warehouse for their celebration. (40% Off Coupons!!! Drawings! Make and Takes!) I am also creating another pop up card for my sister-in-law La Quita. These pop ups are tricky--at least the first couple of times! No photos yet! Just ideas so far!

Ummm……………………….WOW!Impeccable. Inventive. Inspiring. Interesting. Ingenious. Intelligent. Incredible.This girl has FLAIR, and WOW she is such a CREATIVE designer. I’m in awe, seriously, I’m looking at Laurie’s work for like the 10th time here, and I’m still in awe. The layouts are so full of texture, the project is so amazing, and the cards are incredibly inventive. Love the paper and element pairings. Love that she lets the ‘white space’ breathe.So excited to see what she will come up with next!

I was given this logo to display on my blog. Isn't it cool?? I could receive my first Craft Warehouse Design Team assignment the middle of next week! Thank heavens my play will be over and I will have some free time to scrap!!! I am looking forward to going to my Craft Warehouse on Saturday in the AM for National Scrapbooking Day. It is fun, although last year we waited in line for hours due to a register overload.
